Where we are
I’m Deborah at Testarossa Motors in League City. We’re on the Galveston County line, and a lot of our buyers come from Dickinson, Texas City, Friendswood, Clear Lake and Galveston. If you’re shopping anywhere in the county, here’s what to know before you buy.
Title and registration
When you buy from a dealer, the dealer files the title and registration paperwork. In a private sale, you file it yourself at the Galveston County tax office within 30 days. Per TxDMV, the base registration fee for a car or light truck is $50.75. With the $1 TexasSure fee it comes to $51.75, and county fees are added on top. See how much it costs to register a used car in Texas for the full breakdown.
Check for flood damage
Living near Galveston Bay means flooded cars come up for sale after storms. Check for musty smells, rust on seat rails and silt under the carpet, and run the VIN. Our guide to flood-damaged used car red flags lists what I look for.
Financing
We aren’t a buy-here-pay-here lot. We send your application to outside lenders. Credit scores of 575 and up are the starting point, and approval is never guaranteed. You can start with our financing application.
