Marc Marquez won the Grand Prix of Japan at Mobility Resort Motegi in Motegi, Japan. He passed pole-sitter and title rival Jorge Martin on Lap 11 and beat him by 1.363 seconds over 24 laps on the No. 93 Ducati Lenovo Team Ducati. Marquez also won Saturday’s Sprint, and the weekend double cut Martin’s championship lead to two points (official classification; MotoGP.com).
How it was won
Tyres were the big question before the race. Michelin withdrew the soft rear after blistering in the Sprint, and every rider started on the recommended hard rear even though the field had done very little running on it (MotoGP.com; Crash.net).
Martin, who set an all-time Motegi lap record of 1:42.371 for pole, took the holeshot. Marquez sat about four-tenths behind as the pair pulled clear of Marco Bezzecchi. On Lap 11, Marquez dived up the inside at Turn 9 to take the lead, then answered Martin’s pressure with a run of quick laps and stretched the gap to about 1.2 seconds (MotoGP.com).
The late drama was the fight for the last podium spot. Enea Bastianini (Red Bull KTM Tech3) set four straight fastest laps, including a new race lap record of 1:43.041 on Lap 23, and finished just 0.078 seconds behind Bezzecchi (official classification). Alex Marquez served a double Long Lap penalty and later crashed out. Sprint runner-up Diogo Moreira crashed out early; both riders were OK.

It came at the circuit where he clinched the 2025 title a year ago, and it answered a disappointing weekend in Austria. Martin’s runner-up finish was his sixth of the season (MotoGP.com). Home favourite Ai Ogura finished sixth for Trackhouse.
