Questions Drivers Actually Ask

Mobile A/C Repair FAQ

Can you really repair car A/C at my house?

Yes. We carry a refrigerant recovery and recharge machine, vacuum pump, electronic leak detector and a full scan tool, the same equipment a shop bay uses. Recharges, leak repairs, blower motors, actuators and most compressor jobs are completed in your driveway. Evaporator core replacements that require pulling the dash are the one job that has to go to a shop.

How much does mobile car A/C repair cost in League City?

The mobile diagnostic is $100 at your location. A recharge with leak trace starts around $200 on R-134a systems and $330 on R-1234yf. Compressor replacements typically run $800 to $1,500 depending on the vehicle. You get a written quote before any work begins.

Why does my A/C only need refrigerant every summer?

Refrigerant is not consumed. If the level is low, the system is leaking. On the Gulf Coast, salt air and humidity attack condenser fins and rubber O-rings faster than inland. Topping off every year hides the leak and runs the compressor low on oil, which is what turns a small leak repair into a compressor replacement.

Do you service R-1234yf systems?

Yes. R-1234yf (many 2015 and newer vehicles, nearly all 2021 and newer) needs its own certified recovery equipment and cannot share a machine with R-134a without contaminating the refrigerant. We identify which refrigerant your vehicle takes before quoting, so the price you hear is the price you pay.

Can you work on my car in an apartment or office parking lot?

Yes, as long as we can park beside the vehicle and open the hood. We work in apartment lots along Egret Bay and in office lots around Clear Lake and NASA Parkway. No power hookup is needed. We bring our own power.

What vehicles do you service?

Cars and light trucks of all makes, including SUVs and half-ton pickups. We do not take heavy trucks, RV or trailer systems, or home A/C work.

Who is doing the work?

Testarossa Motors, the locally owned dealership at 521 State Hwy 3 in League City, serving drivers since 1995 with a 4.8-star average on Google. Mobile A/C repair is our service side, and you can walk into the dealership and find the people responsible. Read our story or contact us.

How do I know the repair is the right one?

Before anything is replaced you see the actual numbers: vent temperature, high and low side pressures, and where the leak was found. The quote is in writing before any work begins. If you want to think about it, the diagnostic stands on its own and you owe nothing further.

Gulf Coast Driving

Why League City Cars Lose Their Cold Air

Bay Area heat does things to a car’s A/C that inland drivers rarely see. These are the four causes we run into most.

Heat That Does Not Let Up

From late spring into October, a parked car in League City can sit well over 100 degrees inside. Your compressor starts every drive fighting that load, and worn parts show up first.

Humidity on the Evaporator

Gulf Coast humidity keeps the evaporator wet all summer. That is where musty smells and bacteria buildup start, and why cabin air filters clog faster here.

Salt Air Near the Bay

Closer to Galveston Bay, salt in the air speeds up corrosion on condenser fins and rubber O-rings. That is where slow refrigerant leaks usually begin.

Stop-and-Go on I-45 and FM 518

Idling in traffic means less airflow across the condenser, so the system runs hotter and pressures climb. A marginal system that cools fine at highway speed can fail at a red light.
