Buying Guides · Financing and Credit
I’m Deborah at Testarossa Motors in League City. A lot of people think “financing at the dealer” means the dealer is lending the money. At our lot, that’s not how it works. Here’s what dealer-arranged financing really is.
How dealer-arranged financing works
You fill out one credit application. The dealer sends it to lenders it works with, and a lender decides whether to approve the loan and on what terms. Once the deal is signed, you make your payments to that lender, not to the dealer.
Dealer-arranged vs. buy here pay here
At a buy here pay here lot, the dealer is the lender and you pay the lot directly. We’re not buy here pay here. We arrange financing through outside lenders.
Dealer-arranged vs. getting your own loan
You can also get pre-approved at your bank or credit union and bring that loan. Dealer-arranged financing saves you shopping lender by lender, because one application can reach several lenders. You’re free to compare.
What lenders look at
Credit history, income, how long you’ve been at your job and address, down payment, and the vehicle itself. Our guideline is a 575+ credit score with no recent repossessions.
How to protect your credit
We work with select lenders only, rather than sending your application everywhere. Ask any dealer how many lenders will see your application.
What to bring
Proof of income, proof of residence, driver’s license, insurance, and your down payment. Lenders may ask for more; see stipulations on a car loan.
